My mother asked me if I would like some periwinkles a friend brought over. He got them during his holiday and cooked them allready. I really like periwinkles but never cooked them myself. In my youth we wend to the beach and collect them of the rocks. My grandma would cook them and after they had cooled down we would eat them by using a pin to get the little snails out of their shells.

The periwinkle is a common snail in the family periwinkles. In the province of Zeeland, where the common periwinkle found in the Netherlands and the most caught, this snail also called winkle, alikruuk, or alekreukel krukel. The snail is very common on the Belgian beach heads.
The periwinkle is considered a delicacy in many countries.
Cook them shortly (3 - 5 minutes) in a stock with lots of pepper.
